What is electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. The treatment involves using a thin, sterilized probe to apply a low-level electrical energy pulse into the follicle to destroy it. The existing hair falls out, and the process is repeated hair by hair. The current destroys the hair regenerative cell in the follicle. It is the oldest and most effective method of permanent hair removal available, safe and effective for all skin types and hair colors.
Why should I choose electrolysis over laser hair removal?
Electrolysis is proven to remove hair permanently and has been practiced since the 1800′s. It is still the only method approved by the FDA to be permanent. Laser can reduce hair growth, but has not been proven to remove hair permanently. Laser works by picking up the pigment in the hair, meaning those with dark hair and light skin will see the best results. Lighter hair colors and darker skin colors will see varied results. Electrolysis, on the other hand, targets each hair individually with electricity, regardless of skin or hair color. The time commitment with laser is less, but the costs are close to equivalent.

Does electrolysis hurt?
Everyone has their own tolerance to pain. Electrolysis has been likened to a stinging and pricking sensation, and each follicle has to go through it. However, current technology has greatly reduced the amount of time and electricity used in each treatment, thus decreasing the amount of pain each client feels.
How many treatments will it take to remove all my hair?
Treatment varies with each client. Factors such as hair growth cycles, quantity and structure of the hair, previous methods of hair removal, heredity, hormones, and certain types of medication can influence the treatment program for each individual. Each hair follicle has to be individually treated. For example, one treatment on the eyebrows may take 15- 30 minutes. Clients willing to commit to a regular program of electrolysis will see the best results.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
You do not need to shave before your appointment. In fact, electrolysis requires at least 1/4″ of hair growth. Being hydrated will also make for a less painful and more successful treatment, so drink lots of water and avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours prior to your appointment. Some clients report feeling less pain when they take 2 ibuprofen 30 minutes before treatment.
